Taking A Stand

I have a deep concern for our country and future. I fear that our world is being cast into a demoralized abyss of darkness and murder. We are faltering and we are falling. You and I, we are letting the world slip by. But we need to pick ourselves up, let go of our fear, and take a stand.

We are letting millions of helpless and defenseless unborn children die. Killed before they can see the world and its colors, before they can know love, hate, pain, friendships, war, happiness, peace, anger, or anything! The worst part is that those babies cannot defend themselves, cry out for help, or fight for their lives. Yes, they are alive, alive from conception! The womb, the only safe place on Earth isn’t even safe anymore.

Even worse yet we’re now creating human life just to destroy it in its earliest stage? And in the name of cures!? Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT), the method used to clone Dolly the Sheep in 1997. This is artificially creating babies or, as some would like to say, “embryos”. However the baby is slaughtered for study and research. Studied for “cures” for diseases and ailments that are considered incurable. This sounds like a miracle. But we’re taking human life, killing it, ending it, and destroying it to find cures for its kin! One person is not worth more then the other; that unborn child has just as much worth as you or I do.

I want people to know that SCNT is cloning; that it is making a human life and then killing it. That so-called-embryo is a human, not a ball of tissue that could turn into a fish at the last moment. Unless you kill that child it can have a surrogate mother and be birthed as a human, for it is not a tool or an expendable creature.

My own mother who has diabetes, arthritis and neuropathy (a nerve condition that causes constant pain in typically the hands & feet, but is liable to spread), refuses to accept such cures. Only because they are at the expense of many lives, the lives of unborn children. First, never have we gotten cures from an embryonic stem cell, though we have when we used adult stem cells. And using adult stem cells causes no death. Secondly, there aren’t enough ‘eggs’, and young woman needing to pay off college or don’t have enough money for needs, or even wants, will sell their eggs as a means to make money that they need. Women are being treated as an expendable commodity. Lastly, it is suspected that not only will the studies be for cures, but also for other genetic enhancements and cosmetic accommodations.

I think this is about the right time to take a stand and fight against what is wrong. We need to bring morals back into our country before it is too late. Know that if SCNT cloning is a go here in Missouri that we could very well be leading the whole country to allow SCNT cloning. Where have our morals gone? Do we even care anymore? Does it matter that a mortal is playing God and creating life only to kill it? For the sake of our morals, our future, and the generations to come vote NO on amendment 2! Don’t falter, don’t fall, and don’t fail those who are defenseless!

I'm an 8th grader living in Missouri and desperately hoping that Missouri will deeply consider this. Once it is done it cannot be undone. You vote it in and you’ll be hard pressed to vote it out if you don’t like it afterwards. One cannot guarantee the cures hoped for, but I can guarantee the death of millions. If our generation does not stop it now then there might not be another chance.
